what does this mean
Ayah 2 of Surah Al-A'raf, "كِتَٰبٌ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ فَلَا يَكُن فِى صَدْرِكَ حَرَجٌۭ مِّنْهُ لِتُنذِرَ بِهِۦ وَذِكْرَىٰ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ" (This is a Book revealed to you, [O Muhammad] - so let there not be in your breast distress therefrom - that you may warn thereby and as a reminder to the believers), conveys the Quran's purpose and the Prophet's role.
Linguistically, "حَرَجٌ" (haraj) refers to distress, doubt, or hesitation. Ibn Kathir explains that "فَلاَ يَكُن فِى صَدْرِكَ حَرَجٌ مِّنْهُ" means having no doubt about the Quran or no hesitation in conveying its message and warning with it (Source 1). This aligns with the command for patience given to Prophets of "strong will" (أُوْلُواْ الْعَزْمِ مِنَ الرُّسُلِ), referenced in 46:35 (Source 1).
The verse clarifies the dual function of the Quran: "لِتُنذِرَ بِهِ" (that you may warn thereby) for disbelievers, and "وَذِكْرَىٰ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ" (and a reminder to the believers) (Source 1). This establishes the Quran as both a warning for those who reject and guidance for those who accept. It emphasizes the importance of following the revealed word, as further stated in Ayah 3: "اتَّبِعُواْ مَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ" (Follow what has been sent down unto you from your Lord) (Source 1).
